Columbia College-McNair Hall

Columbia, South Carolina

McNair Hall, a dormitory constructed in the 1960’s, was without an elevator or any accommodations for the physically disabled. Updated space requirements, combined with this issue, provided the need for significant upgrades. Phase one of the project consisted of several feasibility studies, both to look at construction feasibility, but also budget and building code related concerns. Working in conjunction with LCK Construction Services, 1x1 Design provided several studies in elevator locations, updated code requirements and general space planning for the affected areas. The college decided to proceed with the updates to dorm room finishes, stairwell finishes, and interior renovations including accessibility elements and meeting/fitness space. Working with the time frame of the College and student occupancy, all design and submittal review was completed well in advance of the May 2012 student move-out day and the start date of construction. All construction was completed prior to student move-in, August 2012.
